More on Boogarins:
Boogarins are a Brazilian rock band known for their creative evolution and vibrant stage energy. In 2024, the band continues to showcase their maturity without losing the intensity that defines their music. After a U.S. tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of their debut album, Boogarins took this celebration back to their home country of Brazil. They also performed a special set called "Boogarins Toca Clube da Esquina," a tribute to influential Brazilian artists from the 1970s, such as Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, and Beto Guedes, blending these Brazilian classics with their own distinct sound.
This year, the band returns for their second North American tour, hitting new cities and performing at acclaimed festivals like Desert Daze, Levitation, and Hipnosis in Mexico. They plan to release a new record by December and promise concerts full of new songs and their signature vibrant stage energy.
Originally a lo-fi project from Goiânia, the birthplace of Brazil’s Sertanejo (country music), Boogarins have evolved into one of the most celebrated Brazilian rock bands internationally. They have charmed audiences around the world with intense performances where their beautiful songs are woven into sonic textures and improvisations that transcend language barriers.
Boogarins began their journey in 2013 on the underground stages of Goiânia with the release of their first EP, As Plantas Que Curam. The EP caught the attention of U.S. label Fat Possum/Other Music, which re-released the band’s debut, earning positive reviews in The New York Times, Pitchfork, and Chicago Tribune, paving the way for greater recognition in both Brazil and abroad. Over the next few years, they toured through Europe and the United States, supporting acts like The Clean, Of Montreal, Guided by Voices, and Neutral Milk Hotel.
During those tours, Boogarins produced their second album, the Latin Grammy-nominated Manual (2015). Between 2016 and 2018, the band was based in Austin, Texas, and recorded extensively while touring. This period resulted in their next two albums: the conceptual Lá Vem a Morte (2017) and Sombrou Dúvida (2019), taking them to major festivals around the world, such as Coachella, Desert Daze, Rock In Rio, and Paredes de Coura. They even performed in South Africa for the first time.
During the pandemic, Boogarins remained active with digital releases, collaborations with new Brazilian artists, and music production workshops. They also released two volumes of b-side compilations (Manchaca) and presented a six-episode visual experience of their Sessões de Cura e Libertação (Healing and Liberation Sessions), a series of free improvisation sets that sometimes complement their live performances.
