About this Event

Bonsai: Tree Inspiration with Jennifer Price & Blue Ridge Bonsai Society

ON-SITE | Sunday, October 13 | 2 pm - 4 pm

---------------------------------------

As a leading female professional bonsai artist, Chicago based Jennifer Price aims to make Bonsai accessible to all as she travels extensively around the world leading workshops and demonstrations and representing the US at international conventions. Jennifer discovered bonsai after retiring from the stage as a professional ballerina and has studied with numerous bonsai luminaries in the US and abroad. She has said that she is struck by the line and form within bonsai that emphasizes the tree’s natural flow of movement. “Bonsai is first and foremost a way for me to express the grace and power of nature with its beauty, quiet elegance, and harshness. Creating a bonsai forms a connection to a living entity, which you cannot truly control, but can listen to and learn from."

In this program that she calls “Tree Inspiration”, co-hosted by the Arboretum and the Blue Ridge Bonsai Society, Jennifer creates a convivial, interactive atmosphere as she engages BRBS members and the audience at large in fast-moving evaluations of members’ bonsai trees and options for the course of their continued development. Each tree discussion provides insight into the process of developing a bonsai tree and will enhance the appreciation of mature specimens such as those displayed in the Arboretum’s Bonsai Exhibition Garden.
