About this Event
Throughout African, Indigenous, Caribbean/Latine tradition, sacred aesthetics have always played a part to not just adorn but shift energy and communicate alchemy. From sacred body and hair jewelry, to gris gris sewn in the pocket. From spiritual talismans, to symbols written on shoes. From elekes, to rosaries, to name plates and piercings. We often communicate with energy and prayer through what we choose to wear.
This exhibition seeks to honor the art of the body as altar and expression, dressed in armor and amulet. Tradition symbolized in modern aesthetics, at the crossroads of style and spirit.
