Give us a Sunday (or three) and we'll give you foundational water and boating skills to set you up for boating adventures not just here in town, but in the wider Bay Area. You can sign up for one session or all three. Cost is $90 per class or $270 for all three. This class is designed for kids aged 11-15 who have some experience with paddle sports and watercraft (like our Small Boat Summer Camp) and are looking to take it to the next level. We will work on developing and refining paddle technique, boat control while using different pedal and paddle craft for adventuring. Each week we will introduce important topics and have local experts to start building a good foundation for becoming safe, skilled and knowledgeable water people. Topics may include:
Intro to Knots/rowing
Intro to tides/currents and conditions
Basic First Aid/rescues
Navigation/Creating a float plan
Entomology of the Petaluma River
Flora and Fauna of the Petaluma Wetlands
The Floathouse has the widest variety of people-powered small craft available anywhere. Expect to learn how to use quite a few!
