About this Event
Join us for an exciting day of snowboarding at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead, just an hour from London! Our aim is to create an event allowing women & gender minorities over the age of 30 to enjoy the thrill of snowboarding in a supportive and fun environment.
Start the day with a Snow Flow Yoga session led by Louise from @Louise_BeyondtheMat, followed by time on the slopes.
We’ll then split into two groups: beginners will enjoy a 2-hour snowboarding lesson, while experienced riders can take advantage of a 6-hour lift pass to ride independently.
Whether you're new to snowboarding or refining your skills, this event is perfect for you. We'll all have lunch at ‘The Lodge’ to refuel and share your experience with new friends (food and refreshments not included in ticket price) and if you need to get some work done, you can use the space inbetween boarding.
The SnowFlow Yoga Session:
Louise from Beyond The Mat, Brighton has created a special stretch session to help us prepare to board.
About Louise
Originally from France, Louise is a yoga and Pilates teacher who has been calling Brighton her home for 8 years. She discovered the joy of surfing and skateboarding a few years ago and experienced firsthand how beneficial practising yoga and Pilates was when first picking up a board.
From greater body awareness to balance and flexibility, Louise is convinced these mindful disciplines complement any boardsport training and she is passionate about sharing this toolkit with any riders out there regardless of their experience.
About the Yoga session:
Expect a fun sequence tailored to warm up nicely before you hit the slopes. From loosening the hips to improving core stability and finding focus, you will feel energised and ready to board! Mats will be provided or feel free to bring your own.
The Work and Play/Apres Ski:
The Lodge within The Snow Centre offers a great area with free wifi to work from with panoramic views over the slope, serves traditional favourites and delicious alpine dishes too (food and refreshments not included in ticket price).
If you're a beginner, you'll have a 2-hour group snowboarding lesson, and after that, the rest of the day is yours—whether you want to work, have lunch, or relax. For the independent group the 6-hour lift pass gives you access to the slopes from 11am, and you can spend the day snowboarding or take breaks between work and calls—it's entirely up to you!
The Snow Boarding:
Beginner Level:
This level is for anyone who has never been on a board before but is interested in giving it a go. The instructor will first introduce you to the essential equipment and slope etiquette. Then you’ll move on to one footed skills, developing balance and posture, progressing on to toe and heel edge side slipping. And don’t worry if you're a beginner, you'll be joined by others who've never set foot on the slopes!
Independent Group:
Lift Pass access starts from 11am and finishes at 4pm.
You must be able to meet the minimum slope standard, be able to control speed & direction, perform controlled linked turns, stop when required and use the button lift unassisted.
Gear and Clothing:
Helmets, Boards and Boot hire included in the price (or bring your own). Be sure to bring your own gloves, warm socks, and waterproof clothing. Clothing can be hired for £8 for one item, or £14 for two items, gloves can be purchased for £12 and socks for £5 on the day, payable to The Snow Centre.
