About this Event

WOVEN: FIRST NATIONS POETIC CONVERSATIONS // Saturday 2 November // 5:00 - 6:00pm // Venue: The Carrington Hotel // Part of the 2024 Blue Mountains Writers' Festival

Weaving connections across oceans, lands and cultures, some of the world’s leading First Nations poets came together to create new, collaborative conceived work in this partnership between Red Room Poetry and Magabala Books.

Three creative pairings share their work and reflect on the process of its creation – Evelyn Araluen and Anahera Gildea (Ngāti Tukorehe); Jazz Money and Cassandra Barnett (Raukawa, Pākehā); and Dobby and Norwegian-Sami rapper Nils Rune Utsi (aka SlinCraze).

Evelyn Araluen is a Goorie and Koori poet, researcher and co-editor of Overland literary journal. Her Stella-prize winning poetry collection Dropbear was published in 2021.

Dobby (Rhyan Clapham) is a rapper, drummer, composer and producer who has performed at some of the biggest festivals across the country. Dobby’s poetry is featured in Woven, a collection edited by Anne-Marie Te Whiu, published in 2024.

Jazz Money is a Wiradjuri poet and artist whose practice encompasses installation, digital, performance, film and print. Jazz's first poetry collection, the bestselling how to make a basket was the 2020 winner of the David Unaipon Award. Their second poetry collection is mark the dawn.

Anahera, Cassandra and Nils will be appearing via zoom.
