ABOUT ALEXIA JAYY
It seems so simple. Forgetting all of today’s frills, effects, bells, and whistles, Alexia Jayy just sings. Whether sitting in the driver’s seat of her car on Instagram, glowing under the lights of a stage, or standing behind the mic in a studio, every tone, inflection, and crescendo of her voice tells a story without filter. The Irvington, AL singer and songwriter,
“I want to be real above all,” she exclaims. “I primarily listen to old music. All of those artists had to actually sing. They didn’t have all of these computers we do nowadays. If you’re singing the right way, people will feel everything you’re singing.”
Growing up in Alabama, music found Alexia very quickly. Her family maintained longstanding roots in this small town, which she describes as “super peaceful with a lot of cows, pigs, trees, crickets, frogs, and stars at night. Her Grandfather Ben Dixon became the first settler in the area. Owning and running sawmills, he donated land to the middle school, which now bears his name. Additionally, her family comprises the bulk of the congregation at the local community church where her uncle serves as pastor. At two-years-old, Alexia sang her first solo in church. Growing up, mom encouraged her to perform as much as possible. She won the world-famous “Amateur Night” at the Apollo as well as talent shows in Washington, D.C., Hollywood, and beyond. At nine-years-old, she joined the local gospel group Grace and generated over 1 million views on the video for the track “Lukewarm.”
“My uncle is one of the reasons I love doing this so much,” she says. “He’s the most amazing entertainer you’ll ever hear, so I learned a lot from him. I’ve literally watched my whole family perform. It started before I got here and was passed down from generation to generation. My uncle gave it to me. At the same time, my mother was nothing to play with when it came to rehearsal. She was in my life to let me know, ‘If you’re going to sing, you’ve really got to do it. You’ve got to mean it when you sing it.”
Upon graduating from high school, she embraced R&B wholeheartedly. Inspired by the likes of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Sam Cooke, she kept honing her voice. Following the birth of her son, she pursued this dream to the fullest. “When I had my son, I started posting videos on social media,” she goes on. “After he was born, I felt like I had no choice but to do this. There was no point in trying to struggle and work three jobs if God gave me this talent, so I might as well see where it could go.”
Among those clips, she shared an a cappella performance of her original “Who Raised You?” It instantly generated tens of thousands of views in a few days.
“It’s my story,” she admits. “I had a baby, and the father didn’t want to be a part of his life. So, it got me thinking. I know so many women go through this every day; I was so sick about it at the time. I didn’t know what I was going to do as far as my son, and I didn’t have any help. The only way that I can get out how I’m feeling is if I sing it. I ended up writing it. I want women to know they’re not going through it alone.”
It happened again in July 2022 when the southern R&B songstress uploaded an original snippet of “I Need a Man” to TikTok. The official remix featuring Boosie Badazz released in February 2023. In May 2023, yet another viral moment happened with “You.” Alexia uploaded an a cappella clip to TikTok, garnering over another 1M views very quickly. Alexia got in the studio with Grammy award winning producer Jim Jonsin and the Big K.R.I.T. assisted version of “You” was created.
"You” was absolutely unplanned! I honestly started to think about how lucky I was to have a good man. So to show my appreciation I wanted to express it the best way I know how and that’s through song, to sing and tell him exactly how I feel and It just so happened to go viral.”
Alexia is currently working on the release of her debut EP titled “Mixed Emotions” set to release in April 2025. For the EP, Alexia collaborated with 5-time Grammy award winning producer Jim Jonsin (Beyonce, Eminem, Lil Wayne). The first three songs off the EP ‘Back to Love,’ ‘Famous,’ and ‘Mama’s Cookin’’ were released in December 2024 and January 2025 and have already garnered significant play and playlisting across all DSPs.
In the end, that’s exactly what she does every time she sings. “Whatever you’re going through, I want you to be able to listen to me, take a deep breath, and be refreshed,” she leaves off. “I’m telling you what I’m going through in the music I write. Even though I might’ve been down or stressed, I’m saying, ‘I’m still here. I’m still doing this. I’m still pushing. I’m still trying to be a better person.”
