BMC Hills Skills social walk (Women & Girls only)

Distance (miles/km): 7-8km (maximum of 5 miles)


Start time 10.15am

Duration 10.15am til 4pm (5 hours 45 mins)

Perfect for complete beginners or those wanting to refresh their skills, this basic navigation skills day in the Lake District will leave you feeling ready to explore new areas with confidence.


Skills covered:


· Learning how to set your map (so you walk in the correct direction!)

· Recognising map features

· Introduction to using a compass

· Route planning - working out distances and timings – helping you to plan your own walking routes


Before setting off, the group will introduce themselves and have a ‘map chat’. There will be plenty of stops for us to teach the skills and plenty of opportunity for you to practice.


Terrain: We will be sticking to footpaths and trails, some of which are likely to be rocky, muddy and possibly a bit slippery underfoot (weather pending!) and will include a degree of up and downhill.


Please bring a packed lunch, water and suitable kit/ clothing. (more info and suggestions to be provided)
