Guest Speaker
Steve Kanowski, Partner, Deloitte Access Economics
Steve’s professional background includes over 35 years working in transport and infrastructure advisory positions in commercial advisory / professional services firms as well as for both Commonwealth and State Government organisations.
Steve has extensive experience advising Australian government departments, government-owned corporations and private companies (financial institutions, operating firms and investors) on a range of economic and commercial issues for transport and infrastructure with strong links into the resources sector across aviation and airports, maritime and ports, railways, roads, freight & supply chain logistics, and public transport etc. Projects in heavy haul rail, supply chains and ports have involved working with resources clients mining coal, iron ore, copper and other non-ferrous minerals. His experience covers a wide range of aspects from commodity forecasting through to operational cost modelling to infrastructure investment evaluation and feasibility studies.
He has advised Governments, private investors and multi-lateral lending institutions on major transport infrastructure projects in Angola, Argentina, Chile, India, Ireland, Laos, Malaysia, Mozambique, New Zealand, PNG, Portugal, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, the UK and Vietnam.
Steve joined Deloitte in 2017, after four years in Qld government - (2015-2017) Chief Economist & General Manager (Strategic Policy), Transport & Main Roads and (2013 – 2015) Chief Economist & Executive Director (Infrastructure Policy) with the Department of State Development, Infrastructure & Planning. Prior to joining the Qld Government in late 2013, Steve had been in consulting with leading Australian and international firms – GHD, Booz & Co, PwC, AECOM - (including being based in London and Dublin for over 10 years).
