Kansas City's favorite Blues radio host, John "Junebug" Stuerke is flying south for the winter, but he has left the Blues Kitchen in great hands. Join guest host, KC Blues advocate Cory Bryars, as he cooks up something special at our house in January and February.In the Kitchen for January, Cory is cooking up Ladies Sing the Blues, with amazing songs by the women who make the Blues so special. We will hear from the likes of Big Mama Thornton, Koko Taylor, Diunna Greenleaf, Sista Monica Parker, Tina Turner, the Pointer Sisters, Janiva Magness, Angela Strehli, and many more.
Our focus will be the power of these amazing women’s voices, both musically and in forging their musical journeys and influencing peers along the way. This two-hour show promises to be high-energy, high volume, and mostly music, with just enough history and storytelling to keep those enquiring minds busy as we enjoy these fabulous songs and artists.
You’ll hear old standbys, some deep dives, and 2+ hours of the finest voices in Blues! Laugh, learn, listen, and celebrate these ladies at The Listyning Room. All recordings played on our world-class stereo systems, so that Blues sound will come alive!
$20 Donations for this event go to support Center For Recorded Music 501(c)(3) and our mission and includes admission to The Listyning Room and complimentary beverages and light snacks. Beverage selection includes soft drinks, flavored waters, beer, wine, and mixed drinks.
