Blues Dance Classes in Glasgow -July - Stories of the Blues

Hello! In July we are taking the opportunity to dig into the stories that blues music tells, and how those same stories influence our blues dancing. Expect your movements to be inspired by the deep African American history of the Blues.
Across the month you'll be introduced to a variety of music and dance styles which all fall underneath the Blues umbrella.
4th July – A Fundamentals Election Night Special (the Blues is political) - with Bina
We’ll begin the month on election night so Bina will be teaching the fundamentals of blues dancing, as it has been shaped by the politics and resistance of African-American blues music and culture.
11th July – Feminist Blues – with Katy
Katy is going to continue the theme with some feminist blues music and history, so expect to have fun and be empowered by some incredible feminist icons of the blues.
18th July –Legends of the Blues – with Bina
The Blues is full of legendary stories about the artists who perform it – often created or encouraged by the artists themselves. Bina will be introducing some of those stories as inspiration for becoming more confident dancers.
25th July – Spiritual Blues – with Andy
Andy will be introducing some of the music and movement in blues as it is connected to gospel and spirituals.
Class from 8pm-9pm at The Red Door Club, downstairs from The Old Toll Bar, £5 or pay what you can (drop us a message if that's a problem!)
Afterwards we have a wee social dance and grab a drink from the bar.
All our classes are drop-in i.e. suitable for those who've never danced before, as well as those who've been dancing for years.
We also teach everyone both roles - leading and following - so you'll never be stuck waiting for a partner to dance with, and you don't need to bring a partner with you.
You don't need to wear anything special, though you may want to wear shoes with slippy soles.
We offer loyalty cards where, after nine classes, you get the 10th class free! Or, if you prefer, pay for nine classes in advance (£45) and get class number 10 free!
If you can't afford the class but would like to take part, contact us ❤
Cheers!
