About this Event

The Stoney Lonesome Band

Nick McDonald -Mandolin/Vocals

Nick is an award winning mandolin player and songwriter, a long time bluegrass musician, and veteran of the Ontario bluegrass music scene. Nick has a history of playing with such shady characters as the Traditionally Wound, Hard Ryde and McDonald Bluegrass .

Justin McDonald -Guitar/Vocals

Justin is a well loved and established lead singer and bluegrass guitar player. Coming from the 90’s rock scene but raised in the bluegrass traditional styles, Justin brings meaningful renditions to both the old and new bluegrass musical sounds. An accomplished soloist as well as performing with his own rock band, Justin was previously with the Traditionally Wound

Luke Puckrin-Banjo/Vocals

An award winning banjo player and experienced musician, Luke brings his own style, energy and drive to the band that is distinct and memorable. Luke carries a clear well defined tenor voice that blends well with his bandmates and is unmistakably bluegrass. Luke’s roots can be found with the bands Hard Ryde and Backcountry Bluegrass.

Sheila Roberts-McDonald-Violin/Vocals

Classically trained, but with a background in old time and traditional fiddle music, Sheila’s bluegrass influence is rooted in the styles of Allison Krauss and Bobby Hicks, (which you can hear in her playing). Always tasteful, Sheila can bring warmth where needed but can also put an edge on when appropriate. As well as with Stoney Lonesome, Sheila performs with her husband as half of the popular folk group Rag Maple

Jeff McDonald-Bass

Jeff grew up listening to the bluegrass music of the 1970’s as evident in his solid rhythm and deep understanding of the genre. Playing lead guitar and singing in his own alternative rock group throughout the 80’s and early 90’s, Jeff is no stranger, (no stranger than most), to the stage and brings a classic, much sought after, groove to the band’s sound.

Shelly McDonald-Guest Vocals

A second generation bluegrass musician and vocalist, Shelly brings her voice to the stage now and again to sing with her family as she has done all her life. Shelly has an incredible feel for the music and a traditional approach to her singing style that is heartfelt, genuine and unforgettable.
