Hi Blue Star Family, I announce this with deep and heavy sadness: the Blue Star Café and Pub’s 50-year Seattle legacy will come to an end on Sunday, February 1st, 2026. Rising operating costs, including food, taxes, utilities, and ongoing economic pressures, along with no viable lease succession option from the building owner, have made it unsustainable for me, as an owner-operator, to continue operating during this difficult economic time. After years of navigating these challenges without relief in sight, the decision was made to close.
From Eggs Cetera in Madison Park in 1975, to a second location on Capitol Hill’s Broadway, adding a few more in the 1980s, Sweetwater becoming a fan favorite in Redmond, and finally settling into Wallingford as Blue Star Café and Pub in 1996, my father, Leon Torrey, made his mark across the greater Seattle area. I am the second-generation owner-operator, leaving my corporate job in 2009 to purchase the family business I grew up in.
Blue Star has been known for its all-day menu, scratch cooking, and quality ingredients. Behind the scenes are signature recipes and countless hours of food preparation — slow-roasted turkey and prime rib, braised short ribs, three-hour confit jumbo wings that fall off the bone, crispy fried tortilla chips, scratch batters, sauces, dressings, soups, and, of course, our house-baked scones, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and three-seed bread. Maintaining quality ingredients has always been a priority, sourcing from trusted local vendors and prioritizing all-natural and hormone-free options whenever possible.
Most importantly, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our incredible staff — past and present. Their dedication, care, and hard work over the years are what made Blue Star what it was. This place would not have lasted five decades without them, and I am endlessly thankful for their commitment, heart, and support.
We hope our customers, many spanning multiple generations, are able to visit one, two, or a few last times. We will continue to offer Happy Hour from 3pm–6pm and Monday Trivia. Our hours will remain 8am–9pm, and 8pm on Sundays, through our final day.
Again, so so grateful for allowing us to show you our heartfelt hospitality over these 5 decades 💙!!
Be sure to follow our social for updates as we wrap up the month and be sure to share your Blue Star memories & moments from eras gone by!
You will definitely see me take on a new direction that excites me to the core, because hospitality is in my blood… stay tuned!
Cheers to this legacy we’ve built together!
