Blue Stallion Brewing Co. is thrilled to announce our next featured artist exhibition: 'Otherscape' by Emily Miller. Otherscape gives viewers the sentiment of having one leg planted in the vaporwave landscape and the other in the middle of a dream world. Vaporwave is a microgenre characterized by nostalgia for jazz, RnB, and electronic music from the 1980s and 1990s. The genre visually incorporates early Internet culture and imagery from the 1990s and correspondent color palettes. Miller’s work is a mixed application of digital and traditional paint and collage techniques on paper, aluminum, and canvas. Each piece celebrates the interplay of color in ambient light. Departing from her earlier work, this body of work was largely inspired by archetypal symbolism, mythology, and lo-fi hip-hop channels on YouTube (STEEZYAF, RyanCelsius, and Inner Ocean Records, to name a few). Channels like these often feature a lightly animated graphic depicting a scenic view. The combination of the visual element with the soundtrack of the playlist offers the sense of being transported to a hypnotic, faraway place. Miller invites viewers to travel with their minds and hold space for thresholds - between reality and fiction, light and shadow, the human and inhuman, the living and the dead, art and design.
Emily Miller began her journey as an artist by spending Sunday afternoons watching Bob Ross with her father, the late Barry Miller. This led to her receiving her B.A. in Studio Art in 2010 at Davidson College, and she subsequently studied graphic design at BCTC in Lexington, KY. Miller developed her craft producing promotional materials for her musician friends and local businesses. In 2013, Miller first visited Latitude Arts, a Lexington art studio, alongside fellow musicians to play music for the artists as they worked on their projects. She later took a job there supporting artists who have disabilities to reach their art goals, and continued on this career path when she moved to Louisville in 2019 while working at StudioWorks (Zoom Group). Currently, she works at Mattingly Edge as an employment specialist supporting students with pre-vocational skills. In her life as an artist, Miller is equally in her element live-painting with acrylics and clippings from National Geographic at music festivals as she is tinkering with photo files and blend modes in Adobe Photoshop. Her work is characterized by digital and traditional painting and collaging techniques implemented to create scenery that tells a story through symbolism.

Real Sad Records, Music Producer:
Focusing currently on hip-hop, Mx produces whatever genre he likes, whenever he likes. Is it rap? Is it electronic? Experimental? Instrumental? Indie?! One thing is for sure—if you love underground and lesser-known 'slappers', 'bangers', 'boppers', this might be your jam, fam.
Fred Birch, Guitarist/Songwriter:
Lexington born and raised. Self-taught in guitar, drums, vocals, etc. over the last 15 years. Played in rock projects from the 2010s and onward with Galaxies, I Like You, We Already Are, and Metric Soul.
Brandon Thomas, Music Producer/DJ/VJ:
Inner Thought distills the complexity of the human experience into a tangible audio-visual experience. A multimedia project spanning over a decade, the message is pulling the inner story of your life into the experienceable realm of visual and musical storytelling. Specializing in the dualities of the human experience that defines us: joy and chaos, trepidation and confidence, introspection and silliness.
