Christmas can be a painful time for some. It may be the first Christmas without a loved family member; it may be a time that has always been difficult. The constant refrains on radio and television, in malls and churches, about the happiness of the season, about getting together with family and friends, reminds many people of what they have lost. The death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, the heartbreak we carry can make us feel alone in the midst of the celebration and joy. We need the space and time to acknowledge our sadness; we need to know that we are not alone. We need encouragement to live into the days ahead.Blue Christmas creates a common space where it is not only safe to feel all that we feel but to fully be ourselves. It’s a contemplative worship experience, rooted in the Christian tradition and open to people of all backgrounds and faith traditions. You can expect quiet music, reflections on the Christmas experience in a time of loss, the lighting of candles, and a spaciousness to simply be present to your feelings heading into the Christmas season.
This year, our Light Up The Tree event is happening with the Blue Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 7 pm. All are welcome to come and join us.
