I turned 40 in July. In considering how to mark the transition into a new decade, I invited a few friends to join me in performing a program of original choral music for treble choir. Gratefully, they agreed! The concert will take place on Sunday, September 22, at 7:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Hope you can join.
I'm thrilled, blessed, and humbled by the outpouring of support for this project from every corner of my community. I'm especially grateful to everyone who donated to support hiring, and in some cases flying out, musicians to participate in this project. The fact that this concert will happen is beyond my wildest dreams, and I'm both nervous and delighted to present this program.
About the program: Most of my recent compositions are based on stream-of-consciousness interpretations of poems, experimenting with new, crunchy sounds and extended techniques. The program will also include some sacred music, folk songs, pop arrangements, and works with string quartet, including a setting of my wonderful friend Leah Silvieus' poem Perennis Amor (and Leah will be here!!).
I generally write choral compositions as a hobby, stealing an hour or two to just see what happens—when rare moments of free time comes available between work and parenting. But it is a great joy to write music, and a thrill to consider hearing the pieces live.
