If you are new to the Bloomington Sex Salon, the format is this:
- Please arrive early to grab a drink and a seat.
- We will start on time (7:00 pm).
- For the first 30-40 minutes, Dr. Mustanski will be interviewed by local sex researcher/educator Dr. Debby Herbenick.
- For the 20-30 minutes after that, we will take questions from the audience.
The Sex Salon is free and open to those ages 18 and over - please bring a valid ID for admission. We hope to see you there!
Dr. Mustanski is the Associate Vice President for Social and Behavioral Research, Director of the Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing, Director of the NIH-funded Third Coast Center for AIDS Research (CFAR), and Co-Director of the NIH-funded HIV Implementation Science Coordination Initiative (ISCI).
Dr. Mustanski's research focuses on the health and development of LGBTQ youth and the application of new media and technology to sexual health promotion and HIV prevention.
He has been a Principal Investigator of over $70 million in federal and foundation grants. Dr. Mustanski's over 375 journal articles in the areas of LGBTQ health, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and substance use have appeared in Science, American Journal of Public Health, Implementation Science, AIDS, and Journal of Consulting and Clincal Psychology among others. Clarivate named him as one of the most highly cited Social Science and Interdisciplinary researchers globally. In 2017, NBC News selected him from 1,600 nominees as one of 30 changemakers and innovators making a positive difference in the LGBTQ community. Dr. Mustanski is a frequent advisor to federal agencies and other organizations on LGBTQ health needs and research priorities, including being an appointed member of the National Advisory Council on Minority Health and Health Disparities and the Advisory Committee to the NIH Director.
