BLOOM365 is excited to once again offer the Peer Advocate Academy, this year in collaboration with the Burton Barr Central Library!
This immersive and highly engaging five-day Peer Advocate Academy educates and activates teens (13-17 years old) to promote safe and healthy relationships for all and provides opportunity for teens from across the Valley to connect and collaborate to achieve a common goal: uproot abuse in a generation!
Peer Advocate Academy participants will experience an interactive and inspiring 5 days of thought-provoking training delivered in 4 tracks & one day centered on self care:
1: EDUCATE: Recognize the red flags, root causes, and risk factors of Interpersonal Violence (dating violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, gender-based violence, stalking, etc.) and enhance skills for building healthy relationships.
2: ADVOCATE: Respond to and support peers "going through it" by learning how to L.E.V.E.L.™ with them. (Listen. Empathize. Validate. Encourage. Link to resources.)
3: ACTIVATE: Gather tools to engage 10% of peers and trusted adults in local schools and communities to actively promote safey, respect, consent, and empathy as social norms.
4: SELF CARE: Join your fellow attendees in a day centered around self care. We will focus on art projects, self expression, healing movement, and a furry friend! (Please note that this day will be held from 9am-noon)
5: AMPLIFY: Elevate teen voices and lived experiences to uproot abuse in a generation.
We welcome all teens who want to learn about preventing and responding to interpersonal violence, but we especially encourage teens passionate about ending interpersonal violence to attend. You would be a great fit for the Peer Advocate Academy if you:
- Want to gain knowledge on how to prevent toxic relationships/friendships, sexual assault, and dating violence.
- Are passionate about making a positive impact among their peers.
- Want to gain peer support skills to effectively and safely respond to peers who disclose abuse.
- Are ready to lead awareness campaigns to promote empathy, respect and consent on their campuses or in their community.
- Believe everyone deserves safe and healthy relationships.
- Are a member of a Peer Advocate Crew
- Are a new Lead Peer Advocate
