blood donation Meanwhile, to prepare for the blood donation, donors should take note of the following:
Bring your NRIC/Work Permit on the day of the donation
Drink lots of water + have proper meals (i.e. don't skip lunch or something) on the day of the donation
One week before the donation, it'll be good to eat more iron-rich foods, so that your iron levels are high enough to allow you to give blood. Examples of iron-rich foods are:
Tofu, cashew, almonds, walnuts
Green leafy vegetables (kailan, spinach, kang kong, etc)
Dates, raisins, prunes
Lean meat (beef, mutton, pork) & fish
Coffee/tea will reduce the absorption of iron, so if possible, perhaps reduce the coffee/tea intake this week or have them one hour after your meals so that your bodies have time to absorb the iron from your food. Substituting coffee/tea with orange juice will also help, as vitamin C drinks can help to increase the iron absorption
