Alan Menken’s highly acclaimed musical adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is being brought to The Hippodrome by BLOC Productions.With lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and book by Mike Ockrent & Lynn Ahrens, the show was originally presented by Radio City Entertainment at the Theater at Madison Square Garden.
The upbeat score is reminiscent of Menken’s early work for Disney and was written whilst he was also composing Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahontas. “In the numbers 'Abundance', 'Charity' and 'Christmas Together', with their dancing Christmas presents and loopily syncopated revellers, there’s more than a tip of the hat to the Rockettes.” (Variety)
