To celebrate the launch of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Archive and commemorate the moment and the movement when Black New Zealanders and their allies came together, Black Creatives Aotearoa are holding a very special free event at the Basement Theatre on the 18th of August - and you’re invited!
The BLM movement was a turning point, not just in the USA but for New Zealand as well, as it explored the deep rooted and systematic racism that the black community faces.
Join us for an evening of live performances, poetry, a panel discussion as well as excerpts from the archive itself.
The Archive is an online collection of articles, photos, ephemera, interviews in response to the BLM marches following the M**der of George Floyd in 2020. Learn more by clicking here
Led by Bareeka Vrede with support from Dione Joseph and Anabel Fernandez Santana, the archive is a living entity that will continue to grow.
We are honoring the moment and the movement that brought Black New Zealanders and their allies together not just to fight against racial injustice and inequity but to know that the real cause is the one that needs us to turn love onto ourselves, to create space, voice and feelings that allow us to love black bodies, black feelings, black minds and black spirits. We are moving through and moving forward, and by grace lifting ourselves and each other UP.
Launch will be held at the Basement Theatre on 18 August 2021 at 6:30pm for approx two hrs.
