About this Event
and friends from welcome you to an exclusive Montgomery screening of #BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions on February 21 at Noon at the Capri Theatre.
Adapted from #KhalilJoseph renowned video art installation, BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions unfolds like an album you listen to all the way through. It weaves fiction and history, pulling together the fictionalized presence of W. E. B. Du Bois and Marcus Garvey alongside artists, musicians, Joseph’s family, and even Twitter chats, offering a layered vision of Black consciousness.
The film lives beyond traditional boundaries, shaped by collaboration across poets, writers, editors, designers, musicians, scholars, and filmmakers. Drawing from BLKNWS, the improvisational brilliance of Kind of Blue, the late works of Jean Luc Godard, and the critical fabulations of #SaidiyaHartman, it is grounded by conversations with Fred Moten, David Hammons, and Malik Sayeed, as well as the spiritual and intellectual influence of Christina Sharpe, Dionne Brand, Ifá, and West African cosmologies.
