Blink 182 Background

Blink 182 was formed in the suburbs of San Diego, Calif., in 1992, and they spent their first several years together performing at various events and venues throughout Southern California. The band has cited The Cure, Descendents, Bad Religion and Green Day among their influences. As their popularity began to spread, Blink 182 — then consisting of Tom DeLonge, Scott Raynor and Mark Hoppus — piqued the interest of various record labels, and in 1995 the band released its debut album, Cheshire Cat, on Cargo Records. While their debut made a splash in the punk scene, it wasn't until the release of Blink's third album, Enema of the State, that they achieved major mainstream success. This high-charting punk album spawned lasting hits like "All the Small Things" and "What's My Age Again?" Suddenly, Blink 182 was one of the most talked about acts in the mainstream rock realm, and the band continued to thrill crowds all over the world. After multi-platinum success, arena tours, and cameo film appearances (including the 1999 teen comedy American Pie), the band recorded Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (2001), which debuted at No. 1 in the US, Canada and Germany. The hit singles “The Rock Show,” “Stay Together for the Kids” and “First Date” furthered the band's mainstream success worldwide, with MTV cementing their image as video stars.

Blink 182 embarked on a five-year hiatus in 2005, and wouldn’t appear on stage together until the 2009 Grammy Awards. They have since issued two additional albums, including their most recent, 2016’s California, the band's second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, and first in 15 years. The current lineup consists of Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus and Matt Skiba.
