Für dieses neue Projekt hat Teun Verbruggen eine zweifellos ungewöhnliche Besetzung gewählt, die jedoch die Fantasie stark anregt. Dieser Freibrief besteht aus Musiker*innen mit ganz unterschiedlichen Hintergründen. Musiker*innen, die ihn persönlich auf unterschiedliche Weise inspirieren.

Bram De Looze (Eric McPherson, Joey Baron, Stéphane Galland, Mark Feldman) spielte bereits mit Teun in der Band Chasing Penguins. Bram ist ein virtuoser und renommierter Pianist, der seiner Musik immer wieder überraschende und frische Wendungen gibt. Er schafft es, jedem musikalischen Kontext seinen Stempel aufzudrücken und ist ein Mensch, der auch vor ungewöhnlichen Besetzungen nicht zurückschreckt. Bram hat einen intelligenten, analytischen Blick für die Form und Architektur von Musik. Seine beeindruckenden Kompositions- und Improvisationsfähigkeiten sind von großem Wert für ein Projekt, das eindeutig musikalische Grenzen ausloten wird.

Die ursprünglich aus Deutschland stammende Saxophonistin und Komponistin Ingrid Laubrock (Anthony Braxton, Dave Douglas, Kenny Wheeler, Jason Moran) lebt seit 2009 in Brooklyn, und war schon vor über 17 Jahren im LOFT zu hören. Laubrock interessiert sich für die Erkundung der Grenzen zwischen musikalischen Bereichen und für die Schaffung vielschichtiger, dichter und oft beschwörender Klangwelten.

Last but not least stellt Teun die innovative Musikerin Ikue Mori (John Zorn ‚Masada‘, Marc Ribot, Fred Frith) vor. Sie ist bekannt für ihre Arbeit mit ihrer anspruchsvollen Elektronik als Solistin und in Zusammenarbeit mit Bands und Künstlern wie Zeena Parkins, Fred Frith, Craig Taborn, Silvie Courvoisier, Ken Vandermark und John Zorn’s Bagatelles. Mit ihrer spannenden Elektronik schreckt Ikue vor keinem Stil zurück. Sie bietet ein breites Spektrum von Noise-Improvisationen mit Mike Patton bis hin zu minimalistischer, abstrakter, lyrischer Musik.

For this new project, Teun Verbruggen has chosen an undoubtedly unusual line-up, which nonetheless strongly appeals to the imagination. This carte blanche consists of musicians from totally different backgrounds. Musicians who personally inspire him in different ways.

Bram is a virtuoso and a renowned pianist who always gives his music surprising and fresh twists and turns. He manages to leave his imprint in every musical context and is a person who certainly doesn’t shrink away from strange line-ups. Bram has an intelligent, analytical insight into the form and architecture of music. His impressive skills in composition and improvisation are of tremendous value to a project that will clearly explore musical boundaries.

The second musician joining this project is Ingrid Laubrock (Anthony Braxton, Dave Douglas, Kenny Wheeler, Jason Moran). Originally from Germany, Ingrid Laubrock is a saxophonist and composer based in Brooklyn since 2009. Laubrock is interested in exploring the borders between musical realms and creating multi-layered, dense and often evocative sound worlds.

Last but not least, Teun introduces the innovative musician Ikue Mori (John Zorn ‘Masada’, Marc Ribot, Fred Frith). She is known for her work with her challenging electronics as a soloist and in collaborations with bands and artists like Zeena Parkins, Fred Frith, Craig Taborn, Silvie Courvoisier, Ken Vandermark and John Zorn’s Bagatelles. Ikue doesn’t shy away from any style with her interesting electronics. She offers a broad spectrum from Noise improvisations with Mike Patton to minimal abstract lyrical music.
