Blackwildgirl explores the power of journaling to help us find our inner power, especially as women and girls in the world.
About this Event

Book talk on Menah Pratt's newly released book, Blackwildgirl: A Writer's Journey to Take Back Her Superpower, and the companion journal, Finding our Superpower.
How can we identify our superpower—our wisdom that is within? This book talk and workshop explores the power of writing to discover and unearth our often hidden and silenced voices.

Since we rarely have spaces and forums to talk about and think about our journeys, this workshop creates a space for us to reflect on our Blackwildgirl--that little Black girl--that has become a Black woman in America. It will be a space for conversation and discussion about our superpowers and how we can find and discover our superpower through journaling.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Blackwildgirl: A Writer’s Journey to Take Back Her Superpower is a 45-year journey, based on 45 years of journals. Blackwildgirl is a book about bargains and how we respond to them. Our lives are often shaped by bargains, some made with our consent, most without. These bargains often involve the loss of some essential element of our being. Those who are courageous undertake initiation journeys to recover what was lost in the bargain so that we can fulfill our destinies and purpose in life. Inspired by Alice Walker’s journals, Jasmine Mans’ poetry, bell hooks’ black girlhood story, Audre Lorde’s biomythography, Nikki Giovanni’s poems, Maya Angelou’s autobiographies, and Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ indigenous stories, Blackwildgirl is a deeply reflective autobiography of acts, stages, scenes, and letters to Love beginning at the age of eight. It chronicles a journey from girlhood to womanhood through a twelve-stage initiation journey. Journey and journal along to find your own superpower in the Blackwildgirl Companion Journal.
