Join us on Sunday, June 13 for the special screening of The Trees Remember presented by the BlackStar Film Festival.
Spanning across 60 years, The Trees Remember is a series of compelling, reflective, and sometimes humorous short fiction films that feature Black women of different ages growing and thriving in the outdoors and exploring connection through movement, stewardship, and grace.
Directed by Angela Tucker, this series is produced by TuckerGurl Inc. in partnership with REI Co-Op Studios. The film is appropriate for all ages.
The Trees Remember features the following short films:
Migration (based in 2020): In the time of COVID-19, Pepper has barely left her home in New Orleans. She must decide if she is willing and able to venture outdoors during the pandemic. As she comes to see the meditative aspects of birding, she learns that nature can bring together strangers when we are at our most disconnected.
Maintenance (based in 1990): Nia and Franklin are a bickering couple weathering a rough patch in their marriage. While deciding whether to leave Philadelphia to be closer to nature, they take a trail maintenance class from a park ranger and learn the importance of maintaining something you love.
Movement (based in 1960): Carmella takes her daughter, Jojo, a disinterested teenager, on a fishing trip. Wanting to make sure that her daughter is grounded in her roots, Carmella passes on the need for strength and resilience during a burgeoning civil rights movement. Based on real-life events.
