Join Alistair Butcher of AB Forgeworks, a local blacksmith based in Corfe Castle village, for a hands-on forging session inspired by the area’s rich archaeological past.Working one-to-one at the forge, you’ll learn traditional blacksmithing techniques and create your own early-medieval key to take home. Each design is based on archaeological finds and historic depictions of keys used between about AD 800 and 1100.
Along the way, Alistair will share the history of keys and craftsmanship from the Middle Ages through to the 1600s, bringing to life how everyday objects were made and used.
Sessions last one hour and cost £60 per person, including entry to the castle for the whole day.
