Saturday and Sunday workshop. You will begin with familiarity with safety, tools, and materials. You will forge a J hook learning heating, cutting, punching and twisting metal. We will then begin by heating a hammer head that we will shape a blade from. You will drifting a round handle hole and cut off the claws from the original hammer. You will grind, sand and file your tomahawk before going through a two part temper. You will make from scratch a hardwood handle, fit it, and fix it with a wooden wedge. This is a very satisfying project, Ages 11-15. Must have one adult (parent, guardian, grandparent...) with child. Limited numbers for class. Fills quickly. Call to register and pay: 207-205-4849. Cost: $195. We are a nonprofit museum. Required: Natural fiber clothing, footwear and gloves (leather). Safety glasses with side shields. Ear plugs (optional). Bag Lunch for both days. Hammer: pein, drilling, machinist, metal work hammer 2.5lbs if possible.
