About this Event

Black Soldier Fly Larvae are crucial to decomposition and live in subtropical and temperate regions. The larvae consume about 200 mg of decaying organisms, food waste, and manure per day. They are safe insects to work with which makes them ideal for composting and zero waste applications.

Black Soldier Fly Larvae take organic material that would otherwise be waste and converts it to livestock feed high in protein, calcium, fat, and other nutrients. Composting with BSFL can be done on site producing livestock feed and a soil amendment while practicing sustainable resource management.

Black Solider Fly Larvae composting can be a closed loop system in which organic wastes are fed to the larvae, and then the larvae can be used as poultry feed.

This workshop will include learning to build and maintain a closed loop BSFL composting system to be used on site in agricultural settings for waste management and livestock feed production.
