About this Event
In 1866, Malinda Russel—a free Black woman—published A Domestic Cookbook, the earliest known cookbook by an African American. Her recipes were elegant and intentional, reflecting a life of resilience and culinary mastery. This dinner draws inspiration from Russel’s groundbreaking work and Cherene Sherrard’s poetry collection Grimoire, which intertwines Russel’s historical narrative with Sherrard’s own experiences, exploring themes of Black motherhood, survival, and the preservation of ancestral knowledge.
