The evening kicks off with the book presentation of Black Metal Rainbows by Daniel Lukes and Stanimir Panayotov. Melanika Vainshtein will moderate the discussion. Following, there will be concerts by VULVA + Acidic Male and Rattenburcht.
Black metal is a paradox. A loud underground metal genre brimming with violence and virulence, it has captured the world's imagination for its harsh but flamboyant style and notorious history of arson, blasphemy and murder. Today, black metal is nothing less than a cultural battleground between those who claim it for nationalist and racist purposes and those who say, Nazi black metal fvck off!
Black Metal Rainbows is a radical collection of writers, artists, activists and visionaries, including Drew Daniel, Kim Kelly, Laina Dawes, Espi Kvlt, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, Svein Egil Hatlevik, Eugene S. Robinson, Margaret Killjoy and many others. In essays and theory-fictions, artworks and comics, we say out loud: Long live the rainbow of black metal!
Acidic Male, an interdisciplinary artist who interweaves her personal, diary-like poetry with evocative themes on self-image, transformation, sexuality, revenge, shame and disgust. With a deep fascination with different genres of electronic music, Acidic Male aims to create a reflective yet confrontational space for listeners through the duality of loud sounds and confessional texts about the body.
VULVA is a dynamic sludge/doom duo from Rotterdam, featuring Kim Hoorweg on bass/vocals and Nadya van Osnabrugge on drums/vocals. VULVA's primal sounds often evolve into unique forms, ranging from atmospheric, slow-burning strains to explosive garage punk eruptions. With their extensive musical background, they challenge the established order through gravity, humour, activism, pain and violence.
Together, Acidic Male & VULVA fuse their sounds, with Acidic Male's introspective and confessional electronic landscapes and with VULVA's raw, expressive doom energy into an innovative and versatile show that confronts, reflects and transforms, offering a fresh and provocative exploration of sound and emotion.
