About this Event
The BE NOLA mission is to ignite the Black Brilliance that exists throughout schools and neighborhoods to ensure Black children thrive. We believe that IF we research and codify Black and community-centered practices that help Black children thrive, THEN we can advocate with and for schools, educators, parents and community partners to embody and support them, THUS creating the policy and practice environment that helps every child in New Orleans reach their full potential.
We believe that transformation happens through communion - coming together to learn from our past, analyze our present, and imagine our future. Born from our 2024 IMH-funded , the goal of the Black Is Brilliant: Community Power Study Series aims to provide spaces for educators, families, and community members to:
- Reconnect with our rich history of Black educational excellence
- Share wisdom and practices that center Belonging, High Expectations, Exposure, Legacy, and Rigor
- Build relationships that can fuel broader change
- Envision policies that liberate our children's education
The Black Is Brilliant: Community Study Groups Series aims to engage, educate, and activate the NOLA community around the role of Black education in shaping our future. Through virtual conversations and community study groups, we're building an intellectual community to support and champion practices proven to advance academic achievement, mental wellbeing, and belonging for New Orleans Black children, especially our youngest learners.
Join us for a series of engaging virtual dialogues with national educational leaders, and local, New Orleans-based educators and Black education advocates. Then connect with our local community partners to participate in the various study groups.
