Black Holes: The Universe’s Wildest Plasma Lab
Black holes are where the universe stops playing nice.
They’re not silent voids in space — they’re regions of extreme violence and beauty, where matter is ripped apart, magnetic fields twist and snap, and the known laws of physics are pushed to their absolute limits.
In this lecture, theoretical astrophysicist Prof. Bart Ripperda, will take us inside these cosmic extremes — treating black holes as natural plasma laboratories that allow scientists to test physics in ways no Earth-based experiment ever could.
We’ll explore:
- What really happens to matter as it falls toward a black hole
- Why plasma and magnetic fields are central to black hole behavior
- What these extreme environments reveal about the universe — and what we still don’t understand
If we’re going to talk about the most extreme objects in existence, we might as well do it with a drink in hand.
