About this Event
Join and as we honor Black History Month with an intentional day of connection, community, and restoration at the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge. This event aims to be a celebration of Afro Ecology - a deep-rooted tradition that blends ancestral knowledge, environmental stewardship, and the transformative power of nature.
Together, we’ll plant trees as a tribute to the resilience and contributions of Black & Indigenous communities throughout history. This act of planting symbolizes not only the growth and sustainability of our natural environment, but also the grounding strength of our collective heritages.
Our day will also include a special mindfulness component - inviting participants to pause, reflect, and write personal intentions, which will be planted with the trees, allowing us to root our dreams and commitments to both the earth and ourselves.
Whether you’re connecting with the land for the first time or continuing a cherished practice, this is a space for BIPOC communities to gather, share, and celebrate the intergenerational wisdom that thrives in our communities.
