Course Description: Have you ever wondered how the Black Hills formed? Maybe you have an interest in geology and don’t know where to start? Join us for a course that introduces you to basic geologic principles and takes you through geologic time. You’ll learn about the origin of the Black Hills and Badlands and how they have changed through time. We will also cover the rocks and minerals that you can find in the region as well as the different rock formations found in the region!
Instructor Background:
Kelsey Mills
A Colorado native, Kelsey grew up near the Rockies in Bennett and has been obsessed with geology and paleontology from a very young age thanks to her moms job at USGS. Since then, she's received a B.S. in Geology (2020) from Fort Hays State University, and a M.S. in Paleontology (2023) from SD Mines. Her expertise includes:

- Collections Conservation and Curation
- Paleontological Surveys and Digs

Kayleigh Johnson
A Colorado native, Kayleigh grew up in the Rockies near Trinidad and was instantly hooked on geology and paleontology. Since then, she's received two degrees from SD Mines, including a B.S. in Geology (2017) and a M.S. in Paleontology (2018). Her expertise includes:
