The Yonkers Philharmonic invites you to a Free concert celebrating the contributions of Black composers from classical music to modern, blues to soul. Join Maestro Rudiakov at 2:00 pm for a pre-concert talk. The concert will begin at 3:00 pm
Amadi Azikiwe, violist, will perform Adolphus Hailstork’s Two Romances for Viola and Orchestra. This piece creates a simple yet beautiful wash of color and light. Joseph Bologne, Scott Joplin, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price and Ellington pieces tell the story of composers from the time of Mozart to the present. Their works have and continue to make indelible marks on the music world. Gospel music from the Antioch Baptist Church choir will send the audience home with their ears ringing and their hearts rejoicing.
Whether you’re a dedicated concert goer or just dipping your toes in to see what classical music has to offer, there’s something for everyone. Bring your children and because the concert is free you can stay as long as you like (although we do ask that you not enter and exit while the orchestra is playing.)
This concert is made possible through a generous NYS Legislative Grant sponsored by Asm.Nadar Sayegh and Sen. Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins.
