About Black Girls Cinema Club

Black Girls Cinema Club (BGCC) is a social film club where cinema becomes a space for critical conversation, cultural celebration, and radical imagination. Founded with the mission to center Black feminism in film theory, our screenings and discussions are designed to amplify the voices, experiences, and creative power of Black women in and behind the camera.

We believe that representation matters not just on screen, but in the conversations that follow.

About the film:

Alma's Rainbow (dir. Ayoka Chenzira, 1994)

Alma's Rainbow (1994), directed by Ayoka Chenzira, is a coming-of-age drama that centers on Rainbow Gold, a teenage girl growing up in Brooklyn. Raised by her conservative mother Alma, who runs a beauty salon, Rainbow finds herself caught between her mother's strict expectations and the freer, more glamorous lifestyle introduced by her bohemian Aunt Ruby, who returns after years away.
