About this Event

A Celebration of Cooperative Black Brooklyn!

The Central Brooklyn Food Coop and RiseBoro present BLACK FOOD RISING, a celebration of the cultural legacy of Black cooperativism and food in Central Brooklyn.

On May 18th at Weeksville Heritage Center, a historical landmark of free Black communities, Black Food Rising will bring neighbors together to share in a community meal provided by the Central Brooklyn Food Democracy Project’s ecosystem of cooperative Black food businesses. The event will feature themed activities for children and adults, food, art, music and more.

Black Food Rising will feature:

  • A large community meal featuring African diasporic food from the Central Brooklyn Food Democracy co-ops
  • Black & cooperative community vendors
  • Guest speakers, music, and cultural activities
  • Opportunities to learn about wellness, solidarity economies, and food sovereignty

Ticket Levels

We have made tickets available on a sliding scale because we want Black Food Rising to be available to all community members. Paying more allows others to access the event; paying in the middle helps organizers cover costs; and paying at the bottom lets community hold and support you. To decide what level ticket to purchase, consider this resource about where you fall on the sliding scale.

In addition to tickets available for purchase, Black Food Rising is offering 30% of tickets for free to residents through community partnerships.

Support Black Food Rising beyond your ticket

Your ticket helps us create this incredible celebration of Black cooperativism and food sovereignty. We are offering many free and low-cost tickets, and the true cost of this event goes far beyond what ticket sales alone can cover. If you're able, we invite you to consider making an additional donation on the Tickets Page to support Black Food Rising and ensure accessibility for all community members.
