Black Brilliance Youth Chess & STEM Challenge 2026

A youth‑centred event in celebration of Black History Month. This program brings together Chess & STEM education with cultural celebration to engage kids, preteens, and teens (ages 7–17) from Edmonton’s African‑descent communities.

👥 Target Audience

• Kids, preteens, and teens (ages 7–17)
• Edmonton-based African descent communities
• Schools, after-school programs, community groups
• Parents and guardians interested in chess and STEM education

Expected attendance: ~ 40 youth (plus parents/guardians)

A. Chess Tournament

• Only 12 spots available — pre‑registration required
• Format: 3 rounds, Swiss‑style pairing with clock

• Only 8 spots available — pre‑registration required
• Activities: Beginner coding challenges & algorithm puzzles

• History of Black communities in Alberta
• Tribute to historical Black inventors and innovators

D. Awards Presentation

• Presented by the Africa Centre

• Light meals and snacks provided
