About this Event
Workshop Overview
The October workshop focuses on programming fundamentals. Beginners explore the programmable hub’s LED light matrix, using sequencing and timing to display text, icons, and sounds. They learn how simple programs are structured and how coding can communicate ideas creatively.
Advanced learners develop structured coding skills through algorithms, loops, and debugging. By programming robotic vehicles, they understand how logic controls motion and navigation. Both tracks emphasize the importance of programming efficiency and problem-solving in robotics.
Beginner Track – Programming the Hub & Light Matrix
Materials Required
- Laptop or tablet with SPIKE app installed
- LEGO SPIKE Prime hub with LED matrix and speaker
- Programming worksheets
Beginner Track Learning Outcomes
- Describe Hub Features: Identify the hub’s ports, LED matrix, and speaker.
- Use Coding Blocks: Create animations, text, and patterns with the LED matrix.
- Add Sound and Timing: Integrate sounds and control how long images appear.
- Save and Organize Projects: Create and manage programs within the SPIKE app.
- Design Creative Mini Projects: Build simple displays that combine light and sound.
Advanced Track – Programming Robots with Algorithms
Materials Required
- Laptop or tablet with SPIKE app installed
- LEGO SPIKE Prime kit with hub and motors
- Student coding worksheets
Advanced Track Learning Outcomes
- Understand Algorithms: Explain step-by-step instructions for solving tasks.
- Apply Programming Methods: Use flowcharts and logical steps to structure programs.
- Write Vehicle Programs: Code robots to move forward, turn, and navigate short paths.
- Use Loops for Efficiency: Repeat actions to improve coding efficiency.
- Debug and Refine Programs: Identify and correct errors through testing.
