TORONTO THEATRICAL PREMIERE! NEW RESTORATION!
Black Belt Cinema and Stompbox proudly present the Canadian theatrical premiere of Vinegar Syndrome’s NEW YORK NINJA (2021)!
New York City is overrun with crime and the police are too busy to help. A mild-mannered sound technician named John must take matters into his own hands after his pregnant wife is murdered for witnessing the kidnapping of a young woman. Hellbent on cleaning up the streets of the city he once loved, John becomes a sword-wielding Ninja clad in white. The only thing that stands against his quest for justice is every criminal in New York. Will John defeat the mysterious villain known only as the Plutonium Killer and become the hero that New York City so desperately needs?
Filmed entirely on 35mm and shot guerilla-style on the grimy streets of NYC in 1984, New York Ninja was never finished or released. Until now…
The only American production of Taiwanese martial arts star John Liu (Invincible Armor) was abandoned during production, which resulted in all original sound materials, scripts, and treatments going missing. 35 years later, in a B-movie miracle, Vinegar Syndrome accidentally acquired the original unedited camera negative and painstakingly constructed and completed the film. Enlisting the voice talents of genre icons like Don “The Dragon” Wilson (Bloodfist), Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead), Michael Berryman (The Hills have Eyes), Leon Isaac Kennedy (Penitentiary) and Cynthia Rothrock (Yes, Madam!), New York Ninja is a truly one of a kind film experience which even includes a brand new period-perfect score from Detroit synth warriors Voyag3r.
Restored in 4K from the original camera elements and “re-directed” by Vinegar Syndrome’s Kurtis Spieler, New York Ninja is now available for the first time ever, after being lost in obscurity for nearly four decades.
