March 6th marks Black Balloon Day- a day to remember the lives lost due to toxic drug poisonings in our community and across the globe. For the past three years we’ve held our memorial walk with black balloons to raise awareness for this crisis and create conversations in hope to reduce stigma, increase compassion and inspire change. This year we will meet in Memorial Peace Park at 5pm with 43 balloons to represent the 43 lives lost in 2024 in our region. The good news is that number is down from the 53 balloons we held last year. The bad news is that’s still 43 too many. We invite you to join us on this walk, to share the memories of the family or friends you have lost, to advocate for changes that will see an end to these unnecessary losses. As always, balloons will NOT be released, as they are hazardous to wildlife and constitute as littering. Please feel free to share this poster within your circles- everyone is welcome #blackballoonday #mapleridge #pittmeadows #memorialwalk #outreach #peersupport
