About this Event
BLACK - A Celebration of Black Research
Join us for an exciting evening reception celebrating the groundbreaking research of Black scholars at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). This reception will showcase the research products of select scholars, including Dr. Tisha Brooks’ book Spirit Deep: Recovering the Sacred in Black Women’s Travel, Dr. Candace Hall’s documentary Clusterluck, and more!
The anticipated high point of the evening will be a screening of the most recent research from Dr. Timothy E. Lewis, Associate Professor of Political Science. The documentary-style video presentation of Do You Know That You Have Black Friends? (which will also be a forthcoming book) offers this re-education on race by imparting that being racialized as Black is a passive sociopolitical categorization in which common discriminatory experiences are imposed upon those in the category. This reception and screening is open to the SIU System and community and will take place February 19, 2025, in the Morris University Center, Conference Center at 6:00 PM CST.
For questions, contact Dr. Timothy E. Lewis at [email protected].
