Towards the end of the Civil War, Fort McKavett was falling into disrepair. It was used as a stopping point for Texas State Troops and Confederates doing different campaigns around the state looking for tribes like the Kickapoo and Comanche. With the war causing so much supply chain issues, the rations that were given was limited.
In this program, we will be recreating from recipes that soldiers documented with limited rations and cooking utensils while on campaign.
Come join us and see what soldiers had to survive on at the end of the Civil War in Texas.
