Seeing beyond the visible and listening beyond the noise- how do we think about poverty and what does it mean for us? with Chris Farrelly
About this Event

Guest speaker Chris Farrelly, former Auckland City Missioner.

WHAKARONGO Prior to taking action for justice, we must understand. Prior to understanding, we must listen. This requires a deep and intentional tuning into a music that is playing below the cacophony of current events and the noise of words and opinions that bombard us on a daily basis. Recognising the pain, desperation and challenges that exist in our country and our world, Chris will explore aspects of the “second music”. This is the sound that is not easily heard, that gives inspiration and hope and in the words of the philosopher Albert Camus, shows that “in the midst of winter there is an invincible summer”.

Following 25 years of leadership in the health system in Te Tai Tokerau, (Northland), Chris moved to Auckland in 2016 to take up the position of Auckland City Missioner. He retired from this position in April and moved back to Northland where he continues his interests in homelessness, food insecurity, Te Tiriti relationships, mediation and being part of the local community.
