About this Event

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DURATION OF THIS EVENT SHOWN ABOVE IS ONLY APPROXIMATE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED; IT WILL DEPEND ON FACTORS SUCH AS THE WEATHER AND THE WALKING PACE OF THE GROUP.

Our Sunday rambles usually have three levels of walk, strenuous (A), moderate (B) or leisurely (C), led by Birmingham Ramblers group leaders. Join us and enjoy a great day of social walking with our friendly members.

Please note: Our walks are often on rough tracks and rights of way through fields, woodland and hills. Walkers should preferably wear walking boots and other clothing suitable for the weather. Unless otherwise described, please bring a packed lunch and refreshments for the day.

This Sunday walk has 3 levels of walk:

  • A Walk: 10.5 miles with 1,700 ft of climbing and a picnic lunch
  • B Walk: 8.5 miles with 1,300 ft of climbing
  • C Walk: 6.7 miles, ~ 500 ft ascent.

Walk leaders:

  • A Walk: Andy Bates
  • B Walk: Kate Chester
  • C Walk: Eva Hyde

Walk details:

Then follow paths around Romsley to Romsley Hill where we pick up road heading west to join the North Worcestershire path. We follow this route via Dales wood to start long climb up the ridge of Walton Hill to top. Afterwards we head down the West ridge to the foot of Adams Hill, where there is a pub. We then walk around Adams hill to climb up Clent Hill and on to Nimmings cp. From there we head west to pick up again the North Worcestershire path and follow it to the ouy skirts of Hagley. We then head over Stocking hill to finish in layby om A491. Maps Explorer 219, Landranger 139.
  • B Walk: Starts from layby on the A456 on outskirts of Halesowen. Goes South passing Uffmoor Wood, then skirts round Romsley to the foot of Walton Hill. Climb gently up Walton Hill and then down the West ridge to the foot of Adams Hill, where there is a pub stop. Then ascend Adams Hill from the West to Four Stones. Descend to Nimmings car park and then go East via North Worcester Path to finish on A491 at West Hagley. Maps Explorer 219.
  • C Walk: Uffmoor Wood and Clent Hills. Starting at a layby on the A456 near Halesowen, the route goes across fields to Uffmoor Wood, which the party will explore. From here we follow a track to Hagley Wood and then up to the (outdoor) Café at the National Trust car park on the Clent Hills at 4.25 miles. We continue through woods to an open area with a viewpoint at the top of the Hills. We make our way downhill through the Clent Hills country park to the Fountain pub at the base of Adam’s Hill at 5.5 miles. From here we walk on the North Worcestershire Way towards Hagley and then across fields to the base of Stocking Hill where the coach will be waiting.

There are a limited number of total places for the walks, which is set by the capacity of the coach. Whilst we hope that everyone will be able to be accommodated on their walk of choice, the allocation of places for each walk will have to be done on the day. No-one will be expected to walk at a higher grade than they prefer - thus, for example, if you prefer the B walk you will not be asked to join the A walk but may be asked to join the C walk. The booking form allows you to specify your preferred walk.

It will only be possible to join the walk by coach, which will be picking up at 09.00 at the layby at the side of St. Chad’s Cathedral, Queensway, Birmingham B4 6EU. The coach fare will be £20 with 3 options for payment:

  • Cash on the day in an envelope with your name and the date of the walk. We are unable to give change for cash payments
  • Cheque on the day, made payable to COBRA
  • Bank transfer in advance of the walk

For payment by bank transfer the walk coordinator will contact you about a week in advance of the walk with bank details. For payments on the day, please ensure that these are placed in the payment box on the coach before the departure; this means that there will be no close personal contact nor any handling of the money when making the payment.

Note that you cannot pay the coach fare through our Eventbrite account. Your booking for the walk will still show £0.00 but you do have to pay the £20 coach fare on or before the day of the walk.

Bookings for this walk will close at 06.00 on Monday 23 January 2023
