About this Event

Join this leisurely ramble with a Birmingham Ramblers group leader and enjoy social walking with our friendly members.

It is very helpful for the walk leader to have prior knowledge of numbers that will be on this walk. We ask you to complete this very brief form to help with our planning of the walk to ensure that we can safely accommodate all who wish to join us. You will receive an automatic acknowledgement when you submit this form, and also a reminder of the details 2 days before the walk.

If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know either by following the 'View and manage your order online' link in your confirmation email and then selecting your order or by sending an email to [email protected] - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you.

This is a 4.75 mile linear walk around the Rae Valley Walkway and Bourneville.

The meeting point for the walk is outside Kings Norton train station on Pershore Road South. There are several options to travel to Kings Norton Station:

  • cross-city train from New Street Station at 10.15 (usually from platform 12B, however please double-check this hasn't altered) and stations in between to arrive Kings Norton Station 10.31.
  • If travelling from Longbridge or Northfield direction which is the train from Redditch the departure from Longbridge Station is 10.21 or from Northfield 10.23 arriving Kings Norton 10.26.
  • Alternatively there is a good bus service from the city centre number 45 and 47 which departs Smallbrook Ringway opposite New Street station entrance on Smallbrook Ringway, it is a frequent service and the journey time from the city to Kings Norton Station is approximately 30mins, or travelling from the other direction from Bristol Road South Longbridge travel time is 25mins.
  • There is also the No 11 outer circle bus anti-clockwise and clockwise which stops at Cotteridge just a few minutes' walk from Kings Norton Station.
  • Or by own transport, park at Kings Norton Station car park, entrance on Pershore Road South. You would most probably have to drive to the far end of the car park where there are usually spaces. Then please walk back up to Pershore Road South to meet the party at the entrance to the station. (If there is train strike action on the day of the walk there may be a limited train service which is worth checking and there is always the bus, as above).

Any queries on travel, please post a message for the leader following the link on this page.

Walk leader: Brenda Cameron

The walk largely uses Birmingham's excellent greenway routes on well graded tracks, firstly along the Rea Valley route following the stream. We leave the route at Northfield, walk to Northfield church and cross the churchyard. We cross Victoria Common and pick up another streamside route towards Bournville Park. We cross the park and reach the A4040 outer circle bus route (optional finishing point) or continue the short distance to Bournville Station for your onward travel towards the city or back to Kings Norton. The walk distance is 4.75 miles, with option for tea/coffee stop.

Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Thursday 29 November. After this, please email [email protected] to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
