Join us at Ravensbeard for an immersive workshop exploring the world of raptors that rely on wetlands and riparian habitats. Discover how hawks and owls hunt, nest, and thrive over water while learning about their vital roles in local ecosystems. Participants will have the rare opportunity to spend face-to-face time with live birds of prey and hear captivating stories from Ellen Kalish’s two decades of rescuing and releasing wild raptors. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how aquatic and shoreline habitats shape these remarkable predators’ lives and learn practical conservation steps we can take in the Hudson Valley to help ensure their survival.

About Ellen Kalish

Ellen Kalish is the Founder, Executive Director, and driving force behind Ravensbeard Wildlife Center in Saugerties, New York. She has been licensed with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation since 2000 and holds a U.S. Fish & Wildlife migratory bird permit since 2002. Over her more than two decades of service, Ellen has led Ravensbeard in rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing thousands of native birds and other wildlife. When animals cannot be returned to the wild, she cares for them as educational ambassadors to help foster public awareness of ecology, conservation, and our connections with wildlife.

Ellen has also been recognized for her leadership in the field. In 2017, she received the William R. Ginsberg Stewardship Award from the Woodstock Land Conservancy for her work rehabilitating wild birds and her educational outreach efforts. She holds a falconry and education license, serves on state wildlife rehabilitation boards, and champions wildlife education in the Hudson Valley through lectures, school programs, and public events.
