About this Event

Leaders: Leonard Weber, assisted by Mara Crawford and Kathleen Garrett

All sessions will be in Eliza Howell Park in Detroit.

The course is limited to 10 participants.

This program is designed for those who have the ability to recognize (identify by sight) the song bird species that commonly nest in SE Michigan.

Participants are expected to attend at least 6 of the 7 scheduled guided walks to complete the course. (A substitute weekday make-up date might be able to be arranged for an individual who misses a group session.)

During the series of guided walks, participants will become familiar with the type of habitat selected and the location and structure of the nests made by different species, as well as the role of females and males in nesting and in the care of the young. The expectation is that participants will observe about 15 different species actively engaged in nesting-related behavior.

The leader will periodically email participants information and/or research questions about the nesting practices of the species observed in the field.

The field course is scheduled on the following dates, all Saturdays, from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m.
