Celebrate 50 years of the Woodson Art Museum's flagship, internationally renowned, avian art exhibition! Since 1976, "Birds in Art" has captivated audiences with its stunning portrayals of birds in their beauty, power, and grace. The exhibition, featuring over 100 new works, also includes all forty-one Master Wildlife Artists, presenting either a new work or a Woodson Art Museum collection artwork previously displayed in "Birds in Art."Join us on the opening day of the exhibition for an exciting, art-filled schedule!
9 am - Noon: Meet the Artists
More than eighty artists from around the world will be attending the "Birds in Art" opening festivities. Refresh artist acquaintances, create new friendships, and get your "Birds in Art" catalogue and posters signed!
9:30 - 10:30 am: Special Presentation
Join us in the Museum's Sculpture Garden for a program that is sure to delight as we right in "Birds in Art Fifty."
10:45 am - Noon: Artists in Action
Watch "Birds in Art" artists at work as they demonstrate various techniques in the Museum's Sculpture Garden. Observe different creative processes and artistic mediums and ask questions, all while witnessing works of art come to life.
1 - 4 pm: Watch, Learn & Create
Enjoy working alongside professional artists and learning new art-making techniques during these artist-led making sessions! Try your hand at collage with direction from Robert Voigts. Learn the basics of scratchboard with Melissa Helene Bossenbroek.
DIY Screen Printing
Screen print your own bandana, tote bag, or garment with unique designs created by "Birds in Art" artists Thomas Hill, S.V. Medaris, Monique Wales, and Mark Eberhard in celebration of fifty years of "Birds in Art!" Bring along your own t-shirt or garment to print on and leave with a one-of-a-kind, avian-inspired fashion statement. Paper, tote bags, and bandanas provided while supplies last.
